It's been a while since I've posted anything, so I've got some dust to clear off.
I was watching ESPN's First Take Friday morning, and they had Bengals-and former USC-quarterback Carson Palmer on the phone, asking him about the upcoming Ohio State vs. Southern California game. Are you serious? Ok, so Palmer won the Heisman at USC, but seriously. Maybe Palmer should be more worried about the Titans this Sunday, and how to make up for last week's debacle in Baltimore. He threw for 94 yards. That's less than 100! Cincinnati had just 154 total yards. Chad Johnson had one catch.
That's just pathetic. As a Steelers fan, I'm not too disappointed, but as the quarterback of a dismal team, what the hell is Carson Palmer doing schmoozing with Dana Jacobson on ESPN about a college football game? I don't see Reggie Bush wasting his time talking about a team he doesn't play for anymore.
Elsewhere in the media, I took a look at the New York Post and glanced over the picks for the NFL games this week. Two writers have the Browns over the Steelers in NBC's Sunday night game.
WTF? All right, maybe it's a little biased of me to think the Browns don't stand a chance, but c'mon people. The Browns have beaten the Steelers four times since 1993. That's more than a decade, and keep in mind these teams meet at least twice a season, sometimes more for a bonus matchup in the playoffs. The last time Pittsburgh lost to Cleveland, I was still in high school. Oh, and did anyone see the Steelers and/or Browns play last week?
Cleveland looked like a mid-major team against the Cowboys. They had 11 first downs to Dallas' 30. The Cowboys outgained them 487-205, and Tony Romo had ALL day to pass the ball. The score was 28-10 for cryin' out loud.
Pittsburgh, meanwhile, thrashed Houston. Roethlisberger threw for 137 yards, a low number, but he threw two touchdowns to Hines Ward. The reason Big Ben only threw for 137 is because the Steelers won the game the way football should be won, on the ground. Coming back from last season's unfortunate injury, Willie parker ran for 138 yards and three scores.
How anyone in his/her right mind can predict Cleveland over Pittsburgh really blows me away. Sure it's a division rivalry and Cleveland's at home, but I don't know how the Browns stand a chance. Either way, it's refreshing to know that Derek Anderson and Ben Roethlisberger aren't taking calls about Oregon State and Miami (OH).
