Bonds in, McGwire Out

Evidently Alex Rodriguez tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. You had to see this coming...

In an interview with ESPN's Peter Gammons, Rodriguez came as clean as he possibly could in admitting his youthful stupidity. He took them over a period between 2001-2003 when he played in Texas.

None of this is news or even my opinion, so I'm gonna get down to it. First of all, my hat is off to him for his brevity in being honest and upfront, and in such a timely manner at that. Within days of Sports Illustrated's report of his use, er misuse, er... whatever you wanna call it, Rodriguez was on the air setting the record straight.

Second of all, I'm a Yankees fan, so this is a sensitive subject, but should A-Rod continue to produce the way he has in his 12 years in the league, he should be in the Hall of Fame.

If that sent you spinning, I'm gonna put you on the moon with this one... Barry Bonds should also be in the Hall.

Think about it sports fans. Bonds has won an MLB-record seven Most Valuable Player awards. No one else has more than three. Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Jimmie Foxx. They only have three. Phhh!

Bonds won it in 1990 and '92 with the Pirates and another in '93 with the Giants. It's safe to say that he hadn't started juicing at this point. It's obvious that he juiced, don't get me wrong there. But look at when he juiced. He was a great player before he cheated. Mind you, the only reason it's cheating is because we say it is, but what's said is done.

You can't take away from Bonds what he did before he took steroids, and he won three league MVP's, something only great players have done. A-Rod has three at this point, one, maybe two of which are presently in question, but should he stay the course, he's a Hall of Famer.

McGwire? Absolutely not. He didn't do much aside from his short-lived single season home run record, and he was definitely on the roids at that point. Sosa? No. Clemens? Yes.

With a lot of these idiots, you can chronicle their careers and figure out when they were taking steroids and I think it's safe so say that the Rocket won three of his record-seven Cy Young awards before he juiced.

Call it the "Steroids Era," but call it something and move on. Think about it people. The first time an athlete started lifting weights it was probably considered cheating. As natural as it is, lifting weights once was as amorphic as taking drugs is now.

Anyway you look at it though, the Babe did it with hot dogs and beer. Let's go Yankees...
